As a lifelong learner, teaching is not merely an occupation for me but a passion. I truly enjoy my work in the classroom because I learn so much from my students every day. Being a teacher is the greatest adventure I have ever embarked on, and I am excited to continue on my journey as a Varsity Tutor!
When I was in high school I had the opportunity to travel to Tanzania and learn about the system of education for girls there. I was inspired by the strength and dedication I saw in the girls I met- they had many obstacles to overcome in order to attend school, but they did it with grace and great interest. It was then that I knew I wanted to be a teacher, to continue meeting students who are eager to learn and understand the great importance of education as a tool for both success and happiness. In college, I had the opportunity to live on that same Tanzanian campus and teach English to the students there. I fell in love with the energy of the classroom and I thrived on the challenges I faced as a new teacher.
After teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages throughout college I became a Reading and Math instructor for adults in Boston who were working toward their GED/High School Equivalency Certificate. The perseverance of my students led me to believe that I, too, could return to school! Shortly after I moved to New York City, I started Graduate School at the City College of New York where I am pursuing a Masters in Education to work in Bilingual and TESOL classrooms.
I am bilingual in English and Spanish, and from living and learning abroad I understand the great difficulty and joy of learning a new language. My experiences have made me a more compassionate and flexible educator, and I am eager to work with new students who are aiming for success in their educational goals! I can't wait to learn from and alongside you.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student can learn, and every student deserves the opportunity, resources, and support to make learning a possibility for them.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I want to get to know you -- who you are, what drives you, and where you see yourself in the future. Once I know these things I want to work with you to map out a plan of how to get you there, and how I can best support you. Our first session will help me create individualized lessons for your specific needs and interests. I'll build on your strengths to help you overcome your challenges.
