Certified Tutor
I am a parent to a special needs child. I have found that I am a natural teacher. I believe I am a great teacher because my son has taught me to be one. I have learned to keep trying different stategies till the right one works. There is no cookie cutter student, teacher or strategy and no shame in trying over and over till you find the right one. I am patient, understanding and compassionate and a heck of a cheerleader. I know how to connect with people to allow them to feel comfort and relaxation to allow the learning process to happen and grow.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Talk. Get a firm understanding of what is their best method of learning and the level of difficulty they are experiencing.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Assign them a task to complete within everyday happenings. Create habitual learning where one does not even realize they are practicing.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Encouragement and rewards.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Find out what is the source of the difficulty. Is it a complete lack of understanding? Processing? Overthinking? Lack of confidence? Then try a new approach.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Break it down. Break down each area and find out what the question is asking. Learn to not always look at the big picture, but small sections.
