I have a long history with one-on-one learning beginning as a high schooler when I first began teaching drum lessons. I continued to teach lessons through college and additionally began helping peers with their writing difficulties. I believe every student can be an outstanding writer or test-taker, the key is just to find the right individual approach. Students aren't all alike and there's no one right way to learn. I really value the chance to find the method that works best for each student and to watch them succeed.
Outside of tutoring, I am a musician and social media consultant. I enjoy hikes, cooking, and games of all types, particularly chess and Magic: the Gathering.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student is an individual and every student deserves an individual approach. I value learning from the student what modes of thinking work best for them and consider learning a joint process.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
First sessions are usually about introducing myself and getting to know the student. We'll determine beginning ability, set goals, then figure out a plan for achieving those goals.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Being an independent learner is all about having faith in your own ability to overcome obstacles. Like all things, it just takes some practice and learning your own tendencies.
