By fostering positive student- educator relationships, establishing clear student expectations, and maintaining high levels of relevancy and rigor for all school-related activities, students learn to take ownership over their behavior and their education.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a first session with a student I like to set up student-teacher created guidelines and expectations for our tutoring sessions, gauge student prior knowledge of the material and begin working toward mastering the content.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Students can become independent learners when the teacher checks for understanding in order to see that the student has mastered basic content skills, and encourages independent practice and study with the student.
