I am very happy with our experience so far with 51Թ. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Garveen

Certified Tutor

I am currently a senior at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University who is working towards a degree in Aerospace Engineering. As my choice of major suggests, I am particularly strong in math and science, and I tutor math up to Calculus 2 and up to Physics 3 (Electricity & Magnetism). I am a physics tutor with Embry-Riddle's on-campus tutoring lab, and I am also well qualified to aid in test prep for the PSAT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and AP exams, having self-studied and scored highly for all of those exams. When teaching, my ultimate goal is to train the student not to simply answer specific questions, but to get them to understand how to approach problems properly and break down more complex scenarios into their most basic concepts, so that the solution can be found. Outside of academia, my interests include playing music, basketball and soccer, cooking, and generally trying to learn new skills (right now I am learning French). If you are interested in working with me, please message me so we can set up a tutoring schedule as soon as possible.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My primary philosophy with teaching is to guide the student to answering the question themselves, rather than simply handing them the answer, and I accomplish this by finding creative and unique ways to explain difficult concepts.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would first discuss their current standing in the subjects I am tutoring them in, and then discuss their goals for that subject. Knowing this allows me to better establish the student's strengths and weaknesses in that subject, and begin to aid the student in areas where they need it the most.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The best way for someone to learn is to analyze their own mistakes and improve on them. A large part of independent learning is entering that sort of mindset, which is what I attempt to help my students do.
