I desire to be an effective educator for my students. I believe that all students, regardless of ethnic or economic background, are able to learn. Likewise, students learn in different ways, but they all are able to be taught, given the right tools. I endeavor to create differentiated lessons for diverse learners in order to meet all of their needs. I believe that when students are motivated they will be excited to learn and will become successful. It is my belief that students learn best when they are engaged and enjoying the content being taught. I intend to provide opportunities in which students can grow professionally. I aim to inspire each of my students to do their best.

In a typical first session with a student, we would play a couple of icebreakers in order to get to know each other. In addition, we would write a list of expectations we want to establish and accomplish during the tutoring session.

I can help a student become an independent learner by practicing the gradually release approach of responsibility when it comes to learning. Based on the strategies we discuss and practice students will eventually be able to be in full control of their learning.

I would help a student stay motived by practicing positive reinforcements. This can be verbal or tangible reinforcements.

I help students who are struggling with reading comprehension by introducing them to different types of text. Creating posters of how to decipher reading comprehension and the strategies used to become an effective reader. I would also provide graphic organizers to organize the text, making it easier to understand. Likewise, we would practice summarizing text. Subsequently, we would create a brainstorming chart to develop a purpose for reading the text.

I found that creating a study plan is most successful when I start working with students. Also, creating an organized to-do list is very beneficial. Create a chart of what we are doing well right now and what we can improve on to make our tutoring sessions more successful.

I would turn the subject into something that they are interested in. For example, if we are learning fractions we can turn the problem into a pizza problem. We can also turn the subject into a movement subject-meaning that we create different movements to help us remember strategies in the subject to make it easier.

I will provide "exit-tickets" which is just a way to summarize what we learned. We can practice "fist to five" which is show me by using your fingers how much of the material you understand.

I would have them verbally tell me about the subject. In addition, I would have them write down everything they know about the subject on the piece of paper. Likewise, they can create a visual or a musical of what they already know about the topic.

I evaluate student needs by a simple assessment. Another way is by having a discussion with the student about their needs also creating a graphic organizer about their specific needs.

I adapt to a student's needs by pre/re-teaching the material, using flashcards, provide other resources, help to take notes, etc.

Some materials I use are: iPads, laptops, white boards, markers, pencils, notebook/notepad, highlighters and manipulatives.

I would walk them through the concept being taught and we would learn together how to solve the skill or concept.
