What is your teaching philosophy?

I like to make learning fun. In order to be fun, it needs to start with the basics since everything comes back to the basics. I like to motivate students to learn.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know them, and understand what their weaknesses and strengths are. See what kind of problems they need help with, and explain how their strengths can help improve their weaknesses.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Showing them how to study, and use time wisely. And help them in a way they don't burnout and completely quit.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Make the tutoring sessions fun, and interesting. Relate their problems with things they like, it could be sports, music, or other hobbies.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Try to explain the concept a different way, and start from the basic concepts.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I help them associate the words and their context in a way they can understand.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Seeing what the student knows in order to help them succeed. Including seeing them do a problem alone, and how they react to it.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Make the subject fun. Maybe apply real world experiences to the problems.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

First, understand what they are struggling with. And I accommodate my sessions to their needs.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Give them praise when they do something correctly, and include easier exercises in the middle so they reinforce what they already know and feel better.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I like to see how the student does on their own, and how they may solve a problem.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

It depends on their strengths and weaknesses.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Problems from the student's own textbook and some I may bring in order to challenge the student.
