I recently moved to New York City following my graduation from Santa Clara University in the Spring! At Santa Clara I earned high marks studying both History and Music and was elected as a member of the Historical Honor Society during my senior year. While in school I focused upon East Asian history, but I am well versed across a variety of historical subjects from around the world. Over my high school and college careers I have become confident and knowledgeable in additional subjects such as US history, European history, Middle Eastern history, African history and Latin American history.
My passion for history is driven by my desire to know as much about the world and its vast amount of different cultures and societies as possible. With this understanding of the past I feel comfortable in analyzing modern day situations and how they came about or even can be solved. More importantly, I feel like one of the major components in establishing a progressive and competent worldview is comprehending people and places which are incredibly foreign to myself. By putting myself out of this comfort zone I feel like I grow as a person each day.
Additionally, a major aspect of being a history major is crafting a fine tuned ability to read and write in a critical and analytical manner. Thus, I will also be of assistance in subjects such as English (composition and literature) and essay writing and editing. I would be glad to help you with attacking a term paper or preparing an essay test starting from the ground up. I will walk step by step from the primary research to the creation of your first thesis all the way through the conclusion paragraph and final edits. When writing a paper structure is key and I would be happy to help provide the necessary stability and guidance to drive you towards your best work.
Finally, my passions outside of the academic world mostly revolve around music. I am an aspiring musician and can play a wide variety of instruments from guitars to synthesizers to xylophones and everything in between. I am a "bedroom producer" and write, record and produce all of my own music in my apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I also perform shows around New York City both as a solo act and as a band. In addition to music I am also a soccer fan, dog lover, and have been skiier and snowboarder since I was two years old. I look forward to meeting with you so we can both learn through this process!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe an important aspect of motivating a student is giving them a sense of personal achievement and growth through their education and learning. Once we have established a subject and area which needs improvement, the student and I will work towards contextualizing the information in a way which gives them personal satisfaction and a greater understanding of the subject in the modern world through their learning.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During a first session, the student and I will first get to know each other on a personal level. We will discuss hobbies and interests outside of the classroom in order to better understand each other and how we can help each other's learning throughout the process. Then we will discuss the subject, and, most importantly, areas within the subject, where the student is both comfortable and uncomfortable. Finally, I will ask the student how he/she would like to grow as a student from our sessions working together. Following this session, I will be able to carefully craft a lesson plan moving forward that works best for the student's weaknesses and aspirations.
