I am a recent law school graduate from Suffolk University Law School and hold a B.S. in Criminal Justice with a minor in business from Virginia Commonwealth University. Throughout high school, college, and law school, I have served as a coach, mentor, and teacher. I coached a swim team for many years, taught swim lessons to everyone from babies to adults, and served as a volunteer assistant with a middle school ESL department. As a law student, I had the opportunity to participate in a program where I taught Constitutional Law to high school juniors and seniors at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in Cambridge, MA. I loved working with my class and watching how much they learned and grew throughout the year. One of my students was even selected to participate in a national moot court competition, and I had the privilege of coaching him through the competition and watching him compete in Washington, D.C. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about history, government, political science, and law. I also love reading and writing, and am very experienced in drafting all types of writing and papers, including personal statements and college/grad school essays. Enthusiastic, passionate, and goal-oriented are words used to describe me. I love working with students of all ages and welcome any challenge!

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy uses a combination of positive reinforcement, organization, and goal assessment to make sure students achieve their desired results.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I would discuss and identify both short- and long-term goals, identify an effective organizational method, and come up with a plan for achieving the student's goals.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I believe helping students to become effective learners involves showing them how to find answers to questions using available resources, and how seek out information on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student stay motivated by discussing realistic short- and long-term goals, setting those goals and important milestones along the way, and then reinforcing both the small and large achievements.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Identify what motivates them and use that as a tool to foster excitement and engagement.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Discuss with the student their areas of strength and weakness and their struggles in the past, and identify their goals.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Try to identify the heart of their struggle or difficulty with the concept, focus on exercises to strengthen the weakness, and continue to reinforce throughout our sessions.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Focus on basics like grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Trying to relate to the student and establishing a personal rapport, focusing on building trust and respect is most successful.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Use different forms of quizzes and assessments to gauge the student's understanding.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Books, outlines, workbooks, visual aids, games, and charts.
