Certified Tutor
I love words and helping others learn how to use and understand them better -- that's why I became an English teacher! I'm cheerful and enthusiastic and try to make learning entertaining.
I have a B.S. in 7-12 grade Education with an English Language Arts concentration, and an M.A. English with a Teaching Concentration. I have 6 years of experience as a classroom teacher in grades 7-12, 3 years experience as a teacher or tutor at the college level, and 1 year experience as an ACT/SAT test prep tutor in an expensive tutoring center.
In addition to all my experience and training, I'm also a good test-taker with an in-depth understanding of how to do well on standardized tests. I achieved a perfect score on PRAXIS English teacher certification exam and did well with other standardized testing.

What is your teaching philosophy?
All students can learn and be successful. All students need a respectful and trustworthy atmosphere in which to learn. The classroom should be focused on learning (the students) and not on teaching (the teacher). Students should be allowed to take ownership of their own learning through independent reading and teacher-provided or -approved choices. In language arts, the content (standards) is the skills students need to read, write, and communicate well. The literature we read is the context we use to show students how to do these things. My job as a teacher is to help students become critical thinkers and conscientious citizens and to foster a love of learning.
