The GRE is a standardized test that is offered in over 160 countries around the world. In most of these countries, it is offered on a computer. It takes 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete and is divided into three sections. The primary reason that students take the GRE is that it is accepted and sometimes required by colleges and universities around the world as a part of their admissions process into graduate school. Thus, if you are interested in attending a college or university like Queens University of Charlotte or the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, it may be beneficial to perform well on the GRE.
One way you can work towards performing to the best of your abilities on the GRE is by signing up for a Charlotte GRE class with the assistance of 51Թ. New classes are offered weekly and you can sign up for either two or four week sessions. Classes take place online, which makes it easier for you to fit prep time into your schedule. You won't have to worry about commuting to your class because you can attend from the comfort of your own home or anywhere else you have a stable Internet connection.
What can a Charlotte GRE class help me review?
There are many different areas in which a Charlotte GRE class can help you review. The GRE primarily covers material related to writing, reading, and math. While you may be proficient in some of these areas, it's possible you may not be entirely comfortable with one or more of them. Working with an instructor in a Charlotte GRE class can help you review the material that may show up on the test.
The GRE is divided into three sections, including Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Each of these sections is designed to examine skills that are considered to be an indicator of future success during graduate school. As such, performing well on the test could boost your chances of getting into the program of your choice.
The Verbal Reasoning section consists of two sections that contain 20 questions each. You will have an hour to finish this section and it is scored between 130 and 170 points. This section is broken down into three different questions types, including reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence.
The questions regarding reading comprehension involve having you read through passages of varying length and demonstrating how well you understood the passages by answering questions about them. These passages could be anywhere from one paragraph long to several paragraphs long. There are typically around 10 passages in this section, and there will likely be between one and six questions per passage.
The reading comprehension questions look at how well you're able to summarize a passage, how well you can reach conclusions based on text, and how well you can determine the strengths and weaknesses of a particular argument.
The text completion questions involve reading through short passages and determining the best answer option to fill in the blanks in the passage. You will have between three and five options to choose from. These questions look at how well you can reach conclusions when you're only given partial information, and how well you can interpret the meaning of sentences and words based on context.
Finally, the sentence equivalence questions involve reading through a sentence and using the partial information provided to fill in the blank sections of the sentence. You will receive six options to choose from and you have to choose two of them. The sentence equivalence questions examine how well you can comprehend the meaning of sentences and individual words.
The Quantitative Reasoning section is also divided into two sections of 20 questions each and is also scored between 130 and 170 points. However, you will receive an hour and ten minutes to finish this section and it covers math-related topics, like arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. It contains three question types, including numeric entry, multiple choice, and quantitative comparison. This section is designed to look at your ability to problem solve using quantitative methods and at your ability to understand mathematical concepts.
Finally, the Analytical Writing section includes two questions. You will have 30 minutes to complete each question, giving you an hour to complete the entire section. One of the questions involves being able to analyze an issue while the other question requires you to analyze an argument. This section examines your ability to write in English, your ability to support your ideas with reasons and examples, and your ability to explain concepts clearly and effectively.
How can a Charlotte GRE course help me prepare?
A Charlotte GRE course can help you prepare for each of the three sections on the GRE. For example, one area where a Charlotte GRE course could help is on the Analytical Writing section. A class might focus on helping you work on a plan and being able to execute that plan within a span of 30 minutes. You don't have a lot of time to think about a response so you need to be able to come up with a plan quickly.
A Charlotte GRE class can also help within the Quantitative Reasoning section. You might spend time going over math formulas that could be useful on the test. While you may have a decent understanding of arithmetic, it's possible it has been a while since you've encountered algebra or geometry. As such, going over some of the formulas used in both of these subject areas could be useful.
A major area an instructor in a Charlotte GRE course might help your class review for the Verbal Reasoning section is vocabulary. The sentence equivalence and text completion questions rely on your ability to understand specific words. If you are unfamiliar with a particular word or perhaps all of the words given as answer options, it can be difficult to answer these questions correctly. Working with an instructor can help in this regard because they can help you go over words that may show up on this section.
