Certified Tutor

I am a biology professor and tutor with a Ph.D. in botany from Michigan State University. My specialty in graduate school was plant physiology and genetics. I also have a B.A and a M.S. in botany and a B.S. in nutrition. I have 20 years of experience teaching a range of college biology classes that includes general biology (for majors and non-majors) and human anatomy and physiology. I have over three years of experience tutoring these classes as well as introductory biochemistry. Before I began teaching, I held research positions and I have 14 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
I very much enjoy working one-on-one with students and therefore tutoring. In my teaching philosophy, you will be able to read about my approach to tutoring. This includes an assessment of a student's readiness to learn, bringing students up to par so that they have the background they need, and use of visual aids and real life applications.
I am passionate about biology and my hobbies reflect that. I enjoy hiking in the wilderness, bird watching and native plant gardening. I volunteer leading nature walks, planting trees, and removing invasive plants. I also founded a local celiac support group that I led for six years and for which I now serve as treasurer.
