Baltimore Tutoring FAQ

How much does 51Թ cost for students in Baltimore?

The cost of a tutor for students in Baltimore varies based on your student's unique circumstances. For a student in Maryland who only requires a few sessions before the LSAT to fill small gaps in their knowledge, the price may be different from what it would be for a student requiring in-depth assistance to prepare for the ACT.

The number of sessions may play a role as well. For example, the cost per session may be lower if you sign up for a lesson a week throughout the term vs. if you only need a couple of sessions to review your MCAT test scores. You can speak with one of our Educational Directors for help.

Which tutoring subjects does 51Թ offer for students in Baltimore?

Baltimore, Maryland, is a diverse seaport city with a population of approximately 621,000 people. The metro area has a population of more than 2.7 million. The majority of Baltimore’s 80,500 public school students attend one of the 177 schools in the Baltimore City Public School district.

51Թ can help your student achieve academic success from their first day of kindergarten through the last semester of college. One way students can benefit from tutoring is learning how to be more successful on standardized tests. To see how well Baltimore schools are preparing their students for state assessments, review the chart below.

Baltimore Test Scores

Baltimore tutors can help students shine on standardized exams such as the ACT, SAT, GRE, LSAT, and other admissions tests. They also help students prepare for state assessments, including the MSA (Maryland School Assessment) tests in reading and math, which are taken by students annually in grades 3-8, as well as the MISA (Maryland Integrated Science Assessment) that students take in grades 5 and 8, as well as in high school.

Taking standardized tests requires both knowledge of the subject and test-taking skills, and a tutor in Baltimore can help your students develop both. Tutors are also able to guide students who are having difficulty with specific school subjects, but they can also work on general study and organizational skills that can benefit students in all their academic endeavors now and for years to come. Tutors use information like your child’s strengths and weaknesses, interests, goals, and preferred learning style to develop customized lessons that meet your child’s unique needs.

Tutoring review by Michelle in Baltimore, MD
Today the student and I reviewed factoring binomials of special cases and trinomials. Then we discussed how to solve quadratic equations, such as: 1. guess, 2. factoring, 3. quadratic formula and 4. completing the square. Then we went over how to solve quadratic-like equations that have exponents bigger than a square. We did a lot of practice problems and ended the session by playing a math game involving logic.

We took a break from Math and worked on the section the student liked most: reading comprehension.  In fact, she did extremely well on this section, with the exception of poetry.  The student tends to rush into answers without thinking it through, so we are taking steps to correct that.

We reviewed a written piece on the subject of the movie. The general topics we covered included: phonetics and pronunciation, the French style of writing, and working to make sentences less wordy. Specifically, we covered the tricky "eu" sound, liaisons between words, idiomatic expressions, and negations. She continues to improve each session and really absorbs the material that we cover.
