Tutoring review by Kyle in Stansbury Park, UT
I had my first tutoring session with the student this afternoon. Together, we worked on a review packet for his upcoming midterm exam. We discussed topics such as roots of polynomial functions, graphical discontinuities, solving inequalities, and more. The student just needed a good refresher and some explanations for why he was doing certain things. He was very open to my help and my suggestions for the entire session. The student's main concern was how to study for math exams and I shared tips and strategies that I have personally found to be successful. These included re-doing homework and review problems, working on any missed homework assignments, and looking to the internet for further resources. From what we worked on together, I could tell the student knew the material pretty well.

Today I worked with the student on her homework. They were working on classifying triangles and finding the missing angle of a triangle. After we finished, I pulled some extra worksheets from my workbook on triangles, and we did some mental math worksheets too for some extra practice. She only had a couple problems on her homework she needed help with, so we got through those without a problem.

We reviewed factoring (regular, quadratic formula), fractions (finding the least common denominator, combine like fractions addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication), and trigonometry. The student did well with all concepts. I gave the students some tips and tricks to solve problems faster and easier. I left the student with some extra problems which cover what we have been discussing the past two days.

Tonight, we worked on the student's Geometry homework. We are going to meet on Sunday to specifically focus on Chemistry. With the Geometry homework, we worked through proofs, specifically with triangles. I reviewed the different theorems with him and encouraged him to write them down on his sheet as a reference for tests. We then worked through his assignment, and I showed him how to use angles to solve proofs. It was a challenging assignment, but he understood the general concepts. With practice, he will get better at it. If he writes down all the theorems in one place, it will be helpful.
