It is the economic and cultural center of the region, and at about 315 square miles, it is also one of the most sprawling cities in the nation. The population of Memphis is about 650,000, though due to the size of the city, many areas feel much less crowded than similarly populous urban areas. It is currently the largest school system in the state and one of the largest in the nation.

This session was mostly focused on PreCalc. We looked at questions dealing with functions, determining domain range, zeros, y-intercepts, max and mins, etc. we also looked at a quiz the student had. Overall this session went well. We looked briefly through her notes on anatomy and physiology, and I gave her some advice on how to go about studying for it.

Tutoring review by Peter in Memphis, TN
First, we went over the Passage-Based Reading homework and the student did quite well with that; only missing 2 questions per each long passage. Then we covered topics in the Algebra packet like properties of exponents, translating words and phrases into algebraic equations, direct and inverse proportionality, inequalities, and solving equations. Finally, I asked her to do all the unfinished problems from the Algebra packet as well as a Writing section from her practice PSAT for next time.

Tutoring review by Alexandra in Memphis, TN
The student did a full length SAT Critical Reading practice section, and we reviewed the questions she answered incorrectly and strategies for answering those types of questions generally. The student was realistic about how much work/practice we could do in the time remaining for the test and fully engaged in our session. She was forthcoming in sharing her thinking about why she answered questions the way she did.

The student did great today. We went over tangent lines, the midpoint formula, and the distance formula. If she pays close attention to her calculations and practices, she should be in great shape for her test.

Tutoring review by Asma in Memphis, TN
During this session, we reviewed different topics. Among those were: solving quadratic equations, quadratic equation word problems, and evaluating quadratic equations given three points or a point and a vertex. We also reviewed some concepts such as how to simplify algebraic expressions and radicals. The student's skills in Algebra are good, but he needs to practice more problems. I'm emailing his mom extra problems. For next time, he will email me the chapters he wants to cover, along with the textbook title, so I can assign more problems to practice.
