Recent Highlands Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Joe in Highlands, NJ
This session focused primarily on logarithms, log equations, log graphs, getting equations from graphs, log transformations and rules, half-lives, exponential decay and growth, "Pert" equations with continuously compound interest, compound interest, and inverses. She is very good at these problems once she understands how to do them. I believe that she would benefit from extra practice. I recommended that she research some extra graphing questions online. I will also prepare some for the next session. She can also request some from her teacher. Again, she is good at the problems; she just needs more practice.

Tutoring review by Brian in Highlands, NJ
Today the student worked mostly on his science work, which went very well. He definitely started to understand the concepts of balancing equations and making Lewis structures when we were done. We spent the last half hour on math, and I believe he is making progress in this as well.

Tutoring review by Bruno in Highlands, NJ
During this session we went over percent of change. We explored different 'real life' scenarios. The student was able to follow the examples and complete the exercises on his own. We created a table that allowed him to set up the textual problem into an easy to understand mathematical view. One important note to keep in mind, is that he needs to pay close attention to the simple math operations, as those were on which he made simple mistakes.

Tutoring review by James in Highlands, NJ
We covered light, color, and the sun's radiation. We did some hands-on activities to engage the learning. While some of the tools such as protractors and rulers were new to the student, he quickly gained confidence in applying these toward to lessons. He benefited from seeing the connection to the sun's energy and the light that can be observed in everyday situations.

Tutoring review by Robert in Highlands, NJ
The student reported back a 90% on the cumulative exam - points missed were only due arithmetic errors, not lack of comprehension. This session covered vectors as well as reviewed completing triangles using law of sines and law of cosines. The student was advised to carefully write work down to avoid small errors.
