Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Steven in Duluth, GA
The student was looking at a practice AP Physics exam, dealing with an array of problems from classical mechanics to wave mechanics to EM topics. It was a wide-ranging session, but we tried to emphasize specific problem-solving skills for each individual problem. The student seemed to pick up topics pretty readily, but she should practice some more to try to retain those ideas more strongly in her mind and go back through what we worked out to make sure she can explain it to herself after the session.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Barbara in Duluth, GA
The student wanted to review topics from her biology class in preparation for an end of year exam. She and I went through some of the tests from her class and discussed the answers. In cases where she was unsure of the correct answer I tried to give it to her and we discussed the reasoning behind the answer. We did discuss some additional topics including the inheritance of blood types which she wanted clarification of. I believe that the student understands the concepts from the class but she needs to work on memorizing facts. We discussed the different parts of the cell and the phases of mitosis and meiosis as the type of facts she will need to know.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Kate in Duluth, GA
We went over the structures and functions of the organelles inside of the cell, including the nucleus, ribosome, ER, and Golgi. We also went through how the information is passed through the cell from DNA to RNA to Protein. I quizzed him on the parts of the cell, and he did very well! He seems to be understanding this part well. We also did a small "lab" that we extracted DNA from strawberries with soap, water, salt, and ethanol. We will talk in detail about how the process works next time. We also concluded the osmosis lab with the "naked egg" and talked about the semipermeable membrane in human cells. Although we did not go over much new material, I feel that he had a better understanding of the material we've covered. I will come up with some quiz questions for next time.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Vipinjeet in Duluth, GA
We began with gasses, which the student had requested. We started with the Ideal Gas Law and the model it describes. In discussing that, it became necessary to discuss inter-molecular forces, dipoles, and the deviations from ideality. We then morphed into phase changes, defining temperature and integrating heating curves and phase change diagrams. We discussed some basic functional-group recognition. She had an archipelago of concepts, she just needed to see how to connect those rote-learned facts via the lens of electrostatic potential energy. At first, she was concerned by the necessity of discussing inter-molecular forces, but she came around and saw the purpose as she began to integrate the concepts. She also needed help with test-taking strategy. The student will review what we discussed, and try to use the book to learn nomenclature. We will review those items at our next session.

We covered freezing point depression, and boiling point elevation, as well as change in vapor pressure. The student was eager to learn. I taught the student how to interpret, and properly utilize all of the formulas.

The student and I worked on review for her final. We went through multiple practice problems and did the reaction mechanisms as well as why would it prefer to go through one mechanism over the other, practiced listing E1 and 2 products (e/z double bonds).
