Ann
Certified Tutor
Hello, I'm Ann Hoover, a New York State certified teacher in Elementary Education and Special Education. I am passionate about helping students succeed by honing their executive functioning skills and enhancing their fundamental reading and math abilities. As a Master's student in Literacy Education with over 6 years of experience as an educator, I've discovered my true calling in guiding students to unlock their full potential academically and beyond.
Supporting Elementary Students: Reading Comprehension and Math: In addition to my passion for executive functioning, I also specialize in helping elementary students develop strong reading comprehension and basic math skills. My journey in education began with a Bachelor of Science in Education, with concentrations in Early Childhood Education and Intervention Specialist, from Franciscan University of Steubenville. During my Student Teaching experience, I discovered my passion for working with students one-on-one and in small groups. Helping struggling readers decode words, improve reading comprehension, and enhance writing skills became a heartfelt calling for me. This led me to obtain certifications in Early Childhood Education (PK-3), Early Childhood Generalist (4-5), Intervention Specialist (K-12) - Students with Mild/Moderate Disabilities, and a Reading Endorsement (K-12) in the state of Ohio.
Why I Love Tutoring in Executive Functioning: I firmly believe that academic success isn't solely about mastering content; it's also about acquiring the right tools to manage your studies effectively. This is where executive functioning skills come into play. I genuinely enjoy the process of working with students to identify their unique academic challenges and crafting personalized strategies to improve their study habits, organization, and stress management.
Why Executive Functioning Skills Matter: Executive functioning skills are not only crucial for academic success but also for life beyond the classroom. They instill valuable life skills that extend into college, career, and personal life. Through my guidance, students not only improve their grades but also gain tools that will serve them well throughout their entire educational and professional journey.
Diverse Educational Background: My journey in education has taken me to different places and roles. After moving to Michigan, I joined the William A. Presti Center for Families and Youth, where I further honed my instructional skills while providing Academic Tutoring to elementary, middle, and high school students. My favorite subjects to teach included Reading, Language Arts, English, and elementary and middle school math. Our recent move to upstate New York opened the door to substitute teaching in our local school district, reigniting my passion for educating students in various settings. Embracing the opportunity to engage with different students and teach a wide range of subjects in elementary and middle school settings has been incredibly fulfilling. This experience led me to pursue and attain the highly respected New York State Teacher Certification in Students With Disabilities (All Grades) and Childhood Education (Grades 1-6). In addition, I am currently completing a Master's degree program in Literacy Education at the State University of New York Oneonta. These endeavors have deepened my understanding of effective teaching strategies and enriched my ability to address the diverse needs of students in the classroom.
Family and Dedication: As a devoted wife and mother of four wonderful children, ages 9, 6, 4, and 2, being able to work from home while caring for my family has been an immense joy. It has allowed me to balance my personal and professional life while pursuing my passion for education.
My Commitment to You: I firmly believe that building strong connections with students is pivotal to their success, and I take pride in creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment. Each student's unique learning needs are at the heart of my approach, and I am dedicated to helping them achieve their learning goals through excellent instruction and thoughtful assessment methods. I'm eager to meet you and learn more about your learning needs and goals. As your partner in education, I'm dedicated to helping you achieve your objectives and supporting you on your academic journey. Together, we'll work towards reaching your full potential and making progress in your studies.
