What is your teaching philosophy?
My philosophy of education involves preparing students through the use visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile modalities. In addition, teachers need to take extra measures to maintain that students understand.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I always get to the know the student by learning about hobbies, etc., then I give an overview and go into the lesson.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
To ensure independence, it is important to get students used to routines, so that they can learn on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
People are motivated by things they are interested in. Find their interests and assess their goals. This will help ensure that students will trust and depend on me more.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Reinforce and review the concept and do not go ahead until it is mastered. Obviously, in a larger class, concepts must continue.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I have an assessment in which I can check for comprehension and grade levels.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I get to know the student to determine what has worked in the past and what has not. I also use positive reinforcement.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would tell them that things will be okay, and that I am here to help. I would also tell that they are not alone in their struggles.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I have quizzes, assessments, and questions that I will ask.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I use positive reinforcement by telling them that things will be okay, and they are doing an excellent job.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Needs are evaluated through assessment, previous tutoring, etc.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I find out what kind of learner I am dealing with such as visual, audible, and tactile. Once this is determined, I alter my approach to fit the student.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I use student materials, online PDF materials, interactive online materials, videos, and lecture.
