Dream it, believe it, achieve It.

When meeting a student for the first time, I would use the session to get to know the student. I would ask them about their hobbies, and their likes and dislikes. I would ask them what they like about school and what they dislike about school. Lastly, I would ask them how they like to learn. Are they a note taker, do they like to see things done and then do it themselves? Do they like hearing things repeated over and over again? These types of questions are crucial when figuring out the best way to approach each student. This type of first session also allows for the student to get comfortable with me as their tutor, by letting them talk about things they have confidence in and like talking about.

For a student to become an independent learner, the student needs to feel confident with themselves and they need to have a willingness to learn. I can help my students achieve these goals by providing them with positive feedback, setting goals for them to strive for, not only in school but in life. Having an open communication can help let them know they can achieve anything they set their mind to, and I can be there for my student while showing my support.

If a student is having difficulty with a concept, I would cover the topic again and again until the student has a clear understanding. However, I would find new and engaging ways to cover the topic.

In order to help students who are struggling with reading comprehension, I first find out what they are not understanding. Then I take my data I collected and I introduce the concepts through the use of interactive play. I try to keep the student as engaged as possible. If something is not working, I keep looking for a solution that works.

I have found that getting to know the student provides the most success when working with the student. Just having conversations about what they like/ dislike, their hobbies and so forth, allow you to connect with the student. Listening to the student's comments, when having a conversation, allows you to see how they problem solve. I also found keeping the lessons as interactive and engaging as possible, and allows the student to use more than one learning style during a lesson.

I would first find out what the student was struggling with in detail. Then I would find out their likes and dislikes. This information would be used to create personalized interactive lesson plans to fit the student's specific learning needs.

I would use a thumbs up or down technique, as well as the Socratic method of asking questions and waiting for a response. I would also use practice problems as a way to determine understanding of a concept. Last but not least, I would use a formal test to determine mastery.

In order to build a student's confidence, I talk to my student to see how they feel about what they are learning. I listen to their ideas and use them in the lessons. This act allows the student to feel in control of their learning. I also provide positive feedback every chance I get. I let the student know we are in this together, and we will not move on until you are comfortable.

In order to find what the student needs are, I talk to the student to see what they personally think they are struggling in. I also talk to the parents to find out what they personally see their child needs. I stay in constant contact with the parents as much as I can. Lastly, with the parents' permission, I talk to the student's teacher when possible to find out any information they can provide. I believe the student, parents, teacher and tutor all need to work together in order to provide what is best for the student's learning.

I make sure I talk to the student in a way that is easy for them to understand. I use the teach one, show one, do one method when possible.

The materials used during a lesson depends on the lesson being taught, but the main materials are paper, pencil, books, technology, pictures, and videos. I also use hands-on activities that I personally create for the student's learning needs.
